we hear the news say another venue's shuttering windows to a younger culture as the king slumlord croaks: "my wealth's in land and not some queer punk rock show or proper maintenance" bring the pipelines connect them to the mayor's ear their condos and hip replacements bankrupt future last calls how can the kids be heard over gilded phones and corporate stewardship? i'm reluctantly aware things can't stay the same as they were but rents exact more cash in hand how much more can we inflate this demand the bubble will burst and wreck this state our art in hand it drowns with you just try to point the finger you want to point the finger, oh the cure's with you the cure's on you i know you want to blame the Donnelly's for killing sprees but what's the last band you caught play at the railway? the tides are rising to East Hastings island Vancouver: it drowns its venues i am aging out of this problem, stat you say i look like your best friend's dad my art in hand every guest list you beg on pays no rent but write out a scathing review of the set my heart in hand just not for you but i guess you'll do

Paper Cuts 03:14
well are you sitting down now, boy? in my career know i'm batting oh for two can i offer a cliche? life's tearing down around you with every foothold you used to trust ain't true share the truth, or show everyone a lie? well are you listening now, boy? your pain's a mirror is my turn overdue? if you'll take this thought in trust what you saying now, speaking of, boy? if you can't make what chance do i hold to? are my odds too overwhelming? it seems so simple what other choice did we have except love? then everything gets tangled we're left holding the gun it's not your fault it's not his fault but what else can we do but talk? we got the scars guess that's a start how every page we turn's another paper cut to dodge we kiss to heal the damage taste of blood lingers it seems so simple what other choice did we have except love? then everything gets tangled we're left holding the gun it's not your fault it's not my fault so what else can we do but talk every night?

Hey! Listen! 01:59
the way you say "now baby you owe me" is it ever gonna stop? how is that fair? then the pin drops never's never ever but if you call me, baby you know i won't look back but every time i swing away you know i'm only trying to stay fair you're coming on too strong i can't tell what you're thinking, no! (hey listen!) i'm done leaving a new stage to let you on so spare me (so spare me) whatever thought comes in your head (I don't think you're even listening I'm just trying to speak my heart to you I don't think you're even listening I could have my pick of other guys What makes you think you're some kind of prize?)
4.
Strangers 03:23
how do you fool my body? i struggle at the thought of another's touch grey and purple colliding the game is never won, call it all a wash so let everybody laugh you tune this broken heart strings it's hard enough to share the state of all our heart strings take our time, it's relentless it seems nobody else wants to make this work if seven seasons don’t make a winner our syndication rights will redeem all efforts to make things right you pull these broken heart strings guess we could make it square replace our broken heart strings but when both of us collapse as strangers i can see the naked truth but you never gonna compete with wonder i concede the game to youth when the both of us collapse you could stay 'till the weekend i could stay 'till the weekend if that's okay we could keep to the weekend every inch we cross puts the future further we’re running out of time to play these broken heart strings i'm losing to the math counting those broken heart strings it's never the time to question our fall into routine pause: we try to kowtow all the worst instincts we breath but when the both of us relapse forget these broken heart strings it’s never gonna last so: trade up these broken heart strings
5.
i told you how i feel and it's not "no" but what gains do "i do" do on their own? sing it too, my love sing it too, my love it's just a waste of time a waste of time just to fall in line fall in line sing it too, my love sing it too, my love that's just the way the song goes on don't be simple i can see right through you're scared of committing to me but that's the truth sing it too, my love sing it too, my love it's just a waste of time a waste of time trying to make you mine make you mine here's a true story: you'll never know what i gave up to get you just to waste your time waste your time

and then you find the song’s about you cherry pick all the pits now the song's the agent and i'm just a witness 'till you find yourself in LA crushing up against the sun bleaches memories what is left is just a sketch i could never draw a straight line i could never trace your edge (a writer: a liar) hold me up in case i tumble share the shape that exists only in my brain all these tangents to explain play the part a dozen times nothing's automatic struggles to convey these thoughts how they tend to linger push it through my fingers translate what i hear to sound vibes pick a colour for the mood you can guess what's left in my mind stumble into something cool? how much of what i say is true? (when i talk about you?) how much is rhyme, how much is bitter parts? (all the guys you had instead) i'll never find the perfect view sketch the chords up in my mind how it's automatic find the rhythm in the morning light (with the guy i had instead) trust the melody holds up i could never draw a straight line i could never trace your edge (a writer: a liar)

cutting your teeth on a maiden trip across the sea the wind breaks down our covers you can only take the gusts head on i typically never think of what my future holds you gain control of your roads maybe it's my time to try you take the stage dreaming of a better day the only thing you leave behind is maybes i guess someday i'll understand the choice you made the problem's not the message it's the timing still left to bring's all the handshakes, hugs and long goodbyes never thought this further it's hard to see just where our story ends we'll document all we can until we meet next time etched in neuro brain waves or some vinyl that we'll never sell out of our fate: carry you around for miles the problem's not the message it's the timing to this i’ll say i promise you i'll never break the problem's not the message it's the timing

You Know Me 01:58
you can take this fucking day the corporate line buys a riot's heart, my love don't fall asleep in the sun when all the marshals sit and make the country's head of state wait up you know i cheer, but my next trick awaits it seems hard enough to breath but what can i do to ease the light and the dark between i'll try to be there but you know me and all the blue could see was the black line to write upon, uh oh as if the cards solved the mystery link but you're never gonna go never gonna go your eyes prick like an ice pick what do you mean i'm dreaming? you take this fucking day the crowd cheers as you walk away and go let the bank floats commence!
9.
Yr Running 03:05
a break from the bottle we shuffle on home and follow your veins how much this cost the people before? to change all our schemas to change on our own i've paid all my dues! how much i've lost to interest on loans? but then your peaks enter my dreams we'll write it off underneath the street lights we focus on snow your static compels how much i've learned to love the unknown but then your teeth enter my dreams to give this up… you're running away you seem so tired for one more day but if you're departing and heading back home please have no regrets (how much I've loved) we'll have no regrets (how much I've loved) and settle our lease "i'm not ready to leave", you told me "but this rent increase can't hold me i'll give up on the rain for shelter nature's doorstep does not welcome me"

dragged west by life's demands i gave my soul to New Scotland to keep waves they make sure you're honest against its might I broke my promise god damn the sea! my time with you, always hope it goes so slowly yr change makes the homecoming lonely five years out will you still belong to me? your knots aren't made of much there's nothing tied down strong enough this wind can't free the Pacific devised a plan that would claim both my eyes god damn the sea! my time with you, always hope it goes so slowly yr change makes the homecoming lonely five years out will you still belong to me? where are you when I welcome rain? where are you when I dip my toes in English Bay? time with you, always hope it goes so slowly yr change makes the homecoming lonely five years out will you still belong to me? ten years out will you still exist to me? time with you, always hope it goes so slowly yr change makes the homecoming lonely five years out will you still belong to me or will you only live as a lie? where are you when I dip my toes in the Wreck sands?
